1) Peer Supporter Level 1 Training – Nanyang Polytechnic
The Social Factor conducted 5 full-day sessions of Peer Supporter Level 1 Training. The programme had the following objectives:
- To train students who are selected and trained for the purpose of offering a supportive relationship to befriend and help other students with personal issues;
- For students to learn how to clarify their thoughts and feelings; exploring options, and alternatives;
- For students to define their own solutions.
2) Sensory Profile Workshop – Ikari Services Pte Ltd
The Social Factor conducted a sensory profile workshop for leadership staff of Ikari Services Pte. Ltd. The workshop explored the importance of sensory issues and allowed participants to understand more about the seven senses, to be better aware of their sensory needs, and to learn ways on how to manage stress in reference to their sensory profile.
3) CHIJ (Kellock) ADHD Workshop for Teachers
This virtual workshop was part of the CHIJ (Kellock) Learning Festival and had the following objectives:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the etiology of the disorder; and
- To learn about various classroom strategies that can be used to help students with ADHD.
4) Virtual Support Group on Knowing More About Yourself – Ngee Ann Polytechnic
This was one of 4 support group sessions that The Social Factor conducted for Ngee Ann Polytechnic students under the Zest Up Programme. These small group sessions were intended to help students deal with issues such as identity and self esteem.
5) Virtual Support Group on Connecting with Others – Ngee Ann Polytechnic
This was one of 4 support group sessions that The Social Factor is conducting for Ngee Ann Polytechnic students under the Zest Up Programme. These small group sessions were intended to help students deal with topics such as social skills and conflict management.
6) Para-counselling Training for Peer Support Leaders – Republic Polytechnic
The Social Factor is conducting 3 runs of these 2-day workshops for Peer Support Leaders in Republic Polytechnic for the year 2020, with an option to conduct another 4 runs in 2021. In addition to basic listening and friendship skills, the students will also learn more advanced therapeutic approaches to help their friends in need deal with various wellness issues.
7) Virtual Support Group on Overcoming Negative Thoughts – Ngee Ann Polytechnic
This was one of 4 support group sessions that The Social Factor conducted for Ngee Ann Polytechnic students under the Zest Up Programme. These small group sessions were intended to help students deal with issues such as negative thinking and stress management.
8) Virtual Workshop on “How to Build Your Child’s Self Esteem” for Parents of Students with SEN – Pei Cai Secondary School
The workshop focussed on helping parents have a better understanding of how they can build their children’s sense of self-worth. It discussed issues of self-esteem and how this impacts the success a child with special needs can achieve. The workshop also discussed how parenting styles influence the development of the child’s self-worth, and examined aspects of transition from Primary to Secondary School.
9) From Tweens to Teens: Preparing My Child for Puberty for St Andrew’s Autism Centre Parent Support Group
The workshop had the following objectives:
- To help participants build resilience for their parenting journey;
- To help parents have a better understanding of the physical, emotional and social issues related to the development of their child with special needs; and
- To help parents to walk with their children through the puberty years and to equip them with the necessary skills to discuss issues related to relationships and sexuality
10) Mental Wellness e-Workshops for Polytechnic Students – Nanyang Polytechnic
The Social Factor conducted a series of 46 virtual workshops for 1st Year Students at Nanyang Polytechnic. The curriculum for the 2-hour workshops was developed by the Ministry of Education, and students learnt about the various mental illnesses and were equipped to recognise signs of distress. They also learned support strategies for themselves and their peers.
11) Curriculum Development for Modules on Special Needs for Braveheart.Sg – Big Red Button
The Social Factor developed a series of 5 modules on Special Needs for Braveheart.Sg, a website which was set up to support Singaporeans during the difficult Covid season. The modules are as follows:

12) Understanding the Birds & the Bees – Helping my Child with Special Needs Understand Love & Sexuality – Church of Our Saviour
Growing up is hard – and sometimes doubly difficult for parents and caregivers. How can parents help their children as they hit puberty and balance between providing them a space to explore and keeping them safe? This virtual workshop addresses the psychosocial development of teens and issues commonly associated with puberty.
This workshop had the following goals:
1) To help participants build resilience for their parenting journey;
2) To help parents have a better understanding of the physical, emotional and social issues related to the development of their child with special needs; and

14) e-Workshops on Active Listening – Ikari Services Pte Ltd
The Social Factor conducted monthly e-workshops for employees of Ikari Services Pte Ltd. The workshops had the following objectives:
1. To understand the importance of holistic wellbeing.
2. To gain a better understanding of themselves; of how their life experiences have affected the person whom they are.
3. To understand the importance of empathy.
4. To learn active listening and effective friendship skills in order to be a better help to their colleagues.
15) Homeschool e-Convention 2020 – Homeschool Singapore
The Social Factor collaborated with Homeschool Singapore to organise its first-ever e-Convention. Originally intended to be a face-to-face event, the Convention went completely online in the wake of a worsening Covid-19 situation. The 2-day event comprised Keynote and High School Day Speeches, a Homeschool Village featuring 20 concurrent facilitated breakout sessions, and a Curriculum Fair with more than 60 virtual booths.

The workshop had the following objectives:
- To help participants better understand the sensory pyramid and how it affects learning;
- To help participants better understand the ethology of Sensory Processing Disorder as well as lesser known senses such as proprioception and vestibulation; and
- To help participants understand sensory play and engage in effective strategies to help children in the classroom and school setting.

2019
1) The Lien Foundation – Workshops for Parents/Caregivers of Persons with Special Needs
The Social Factor will be working with The Lien Foundation to organise a series of 3 workshops. The objectives are as follows:
- To help participants build resilience for their parenting journey alongside their child and/or as a family unit;
- To introduce the idea of self advocacy for children with disabilities/learning difficulties, equipping participants with skills to enable their children to socialise better and achieve better socio-emotional development; and
- To help parents manage issues such those related to marriage, sibling relationships and depression.
2) Orchid Park Secondary School – Teacher Workshop on “No Child Left Behind”: Creating a Culture of Inclusion in the Classroom
This was a workshop centred on inclusion; to help participants gain an insight into the concepts of awareness, understanding and inclusion, in order to create a culture of inclusion in the school. While participants were provided with an introduction to the various special needs e.g. Autism/ASD, ADHD and Dyslexia, the workshop was focused primarily at helping students with special needs deal with their learning challenges against the context of a wider school environment.
3) Orchid Park Secondary School – Peer Support Programme
The Social Factor conducted a workshop series for 31 Peer Support Leaders. The workshops were intended to help the students better support their peers in the areas of active listening and how to be a friend. As part of the school’s thrust to promote inclusion, the participants underwent a sensory awareness and inclusion programme which helped them gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by students with special needs.
4) Orchid Park Secondary School – SEN Workshop Series
This was a 3-part workshop series intended to help students with special needs deal with the challenges of life. The workshop covered the following topics:

5) Jurong Calvary Kindergarten – Creating a Safe Space: How to Help Your Child Manage Transitions from Home to Pre-school and Primary School
The Social Factor conducted a workshop for parents at Jurong Calvary Kindergarten to help them manage the transitions faced by their children. The workshop discussed theories of change & transition and anxiety & stress, examining the human development theories that underpin these issues. Parents were also provided with strategies to help their kids manage the transition, and learning was through interactive discussions and case studies.
6) Dunearn Secondary School – Learning Workshop Series
This is the third year that The Social Factor is collaborating with Dunearn Secondary School to conduct workshops for students with special needs. The theme for the year was on Confidence & Self-Management and students were taught to build up these important life skills through interactive games and learning activities.
7) Anderson Secondary School – Workshop Series on Focus & Concentration
The Social Factor conducted a 4-part workshop series for students with learning challenges. The topics were as follows:

8) Marymount Convent – Understanding Our Differences: An Insider’s Guide into Special Needs & Sensory Issues
The Social Factor conducted a workshop for 100 teachers at Marymount Convent with the following objectives:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the etiology of the disorder;
- To understand various other sensory and neurological disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD);

11) Yishun Town Secondary School – Workshop on Dyslexia
The Social Factor conducted a workshop for 10 students with dyslexia with the following objectives:
a. To help students with special needs in the area of social-emotional awareness, in order for them to become more aware of their motivations, esteem needs, surrounding environment, and in the process develop executive functioning skills; and
b. To help students with special needs learn better, and in the process develop stronger studying and working habits.
c. To help students with special needs adopt a growth mindset in their learning about their various strengths and learning styles.
12) CHIJ (Our Lady of Good Counsel) – 2-Part SEN Workshop
The Social Factor is conducting a 2-part workshop to help students learn better.
The workshops have the following objectives:

b. To help students identify their learning styles & their strengths; and acquire effective study skills.

13) Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Peer Support Training for Students
This is the 3rd year that The Social Factor is conducting Peer Support training for Ngee Ann Poly Peer Helpers.
The 2-day student programme has the following objectives:
- To help students gain a better understanding of themselves and how their life experiences have affected the person whom they are.
- To understand the importance of empathy.
- To learn active listening and effective friendship skills in order to be a better help to their friends.
- To learn about common youth issues and signs of distress, and how to recognise when a friend needs help.

The Social Factor is conducting a workshop series for 14 students at Park View Primary School.

16) Mayflower Secondary School – Social Skills Workshop Series
The Social Factor is conducting a workshop series for 8 students at Mayflower Secondary School.
The programme had the following goals:
a. To help students with special needs in the area of body awareness, in order for them to learn self control and better manage behavioural issues;
b. To help students with special needs in the area of social-emotional awareness, in order for them to become more aware of their motivations, esteem needs, surrounding environment, and in the process develop executive functioning skills; and

17) Bt Batok Secondary School – ADHD Workshop for Teachers
The Social Factor conducted an ADHD Workshop for staff at Bt Batok Secondary School. The workshop, for 40 participants, was intended to help teachers develop a better understanding of ADHD and learn strategies on how to help students in the classroom.
18) St Andrew’s Autism School – Workshops for Parents on Healthy & Safe Relationships (HSR)
The Social Factor conducted a workshop for the Parent Support Group at St Andrew’s Autism School. The topics covered included:

19) Health Promotion Board – Next Steps: Managing the Transition to Primary School – Pre-School Teachers’ Training Workshops (2018-2020)
The Social Factor has won the contract for 7 full-day sessions of workshops. The sessions aim to help teachers understand the transition experience of pre-school aged students and equipping them with the necessary skills and resources to manage the primary school experience effectively. At the end of the session, teachers will:
- Recognise the key differences between the pre-school vs. primary school experience
- Understand how change and transition induces stress and anxiety in children
- Normalise and manage transition-related stress and anxiety in children
- Demonstrate how primary school can be a positive experience
- Engage parents in transition planning
- Encourage help-seeking and help-giving amongst children pre and post transition

2018
1) Cedar Primary School – Staff Workshops on Special Educational Needs (SEN) & Enhancing the Learning Experience
This was a full day programme for staff at Cedar Primary School. The morning session was a collaboration with Sunshine & Love, and the staff designed and painted their very own coffee mugs in order to challenge their everyday perspectives. As for the afternoon session, it helped participants have a better understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Dyslexia, and provided strategies on how to manage students with SEN in the classroom.
2) MWS Covenant Family Service Centre – Setting Up of Sensory Corner & Staff Workshop on Sensory Issues and Special Needs
The Social Factor was engaged as a consultant to set up a Sensory Corner for social workers at MWS Covenant Family Service Centre to help them manage the stresses associated with the job.
The staff workshop has the following objectives:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the etiology of the disorder;
- To present an overview of special needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); and
- To learn about various therapeutic strategies that can be used to help children with SPD, ASD and ADHD.
3) Peirce Secondary School – Life Skills Workshop Series for Students with Special Needs
The Social Factor conducted a 5-hour experiential workshop to help participants develop a better self awareness and to develop a number of important life skills. These included the following:

4) Yuying Secondary School – ADHD Workshop for Teachers & Allied Educators
The Social Factor conducted an ADHD Workshop for staff at Yuying Secondary School. The workshop was for 80 participants and had the following goals:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the etiology of the disorder; and
- To learn about various classroom strategies that can be used to help students with ADHD.

The Social Factor conducted four workshops to help students gain competence in salient life skills. The workshops are intended to help participants develop the following life skills:

- Motivation & Coping with Stress
- Leadership & Teamwork
Learning will be facilitated and enhanced through the use of presentations, games, discussions and experiential learning.
7) Yio Chu Kang Primary School – Study Skills for Students with Special Needs
The Social Factor conducted a workshop to help students in the following ways:
a. To help students understand how the brain facilitates learning;
b. To help students identify their learning styles & their strengths; and acquire effective study skills.
c. To help students with special needs learn better, and in the process develop stronger studying and working habits.
8) Bowen Secondary School – Workshop on ADHD
The programme had the following goals:

9) Metta School – Talk on Relationships & Sexuality
This is the second session conduced for Metta School. It is an interactive talk for students aged 16-20; for them to have better body awareness in the areas of health, relationships and sexuality. Among the areas covered included the importance of healthy relationships, the role of sex in a relationship and the ABCDs of sex.
10) Geylang Methodist Secondary School – Consultation for Parents-Mentoring Programme
The Social Factor is providing consultancy work for the implementation of a mentoring programme by parents which would provide social-emotional support to students. The four-month programme would empower parent-mentors to guide students in the setting of clear and realistic goals for their holistic development.
11) Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Workshop on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
This is a Level 2 training programme for Peer Helpers to build on the skills they had previously learnt in the Basic Peer Support Programme. The workshop is intended to help Peer Helpers identify and understand the negative automatic thoughts of their peers, and through a systematic approach, to help their peers address errors in thinking and other cognitive issues.
12) Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home – Setting Up of Sensory-Therapy Room & Staff Workshop on Sensory Issues and Special Needs
The Social Factor was engaged to set up a Sensory-Therapy Room for Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home. The room will be used to help all children to meet their sensory diet. The staff workshop has the following objectives:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the etiology of the disorder;
- To present an overview of special needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); and
- To learn about various therapeutic strategies that can be used to help children with SPD, ASD and ADHD.
13) Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Peer Support Training for Students
The Social Factor is conducting another four runs of the Peer Support Programme for Student Peer Helpers. The programme has the following objectives:
- To help students gain a better understanding of themselves and how their life experiences have affected the person whom they are.
- To understand the importance of empathy.
- To learn active listening and effective friendship skills in order to be a better help to their friends.
- To learn about common youth issues and signs of distress, and how to recognise when a friend needs help.
- To learn about the various support strategies & resources and how to help a friend in need.
14) Canberra Secondary School – Workshops on Dyslexia & ADHD: How to Study, Learn More Effectively & Be Better Prepared for Examinations
The Social Factor conducted a specialised workshop for students with dyslexia to help them to be more effective learners. Students were taught how to cope with dyslexia in terms of how to understand their emotions, how to adopt a learning style appropriate to their needs, and how to create an optimal learning and studying environment. They were also provided with techniques to facilitate their learning and to be better prepared for their examinations.
The Social Factor also conducted a specialised workshop for students with ADHD. The workshop discussed the two system approach to attention, and provided suggestions on how to remove distractions and how to create a conductive environment for learning.
15) Anglican High School – Peer Support Training for Students
The Social Factor is conducting two runs of the Peer Support Programme for Secondary One and Two Peer Support Leaders. The programme has the following objectives:
- To help students gain a better understanding of themselves and how their life experiences have affected the person whom they are.
- To understand the importance of empathy.
- To learn active listening and effective friendship skills in order to be a better help to their friends.
- To learn about common youth issues and signs of distress, and how to recognise when a friend needs help.

16) Training on Autism Spectrum Disorder for Allied Educators and Learning Support Officers (Fuhua Primary School)
The session on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) had the following aims:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the etiology of the disorder;
- To present an overview of the link between SPD and ASD; and
- To learn about various classroom strategies that can be used to help students with SPD and ASD.
17) Setting Up of Sensory Room & Teacher Workshop on Sensory Issues and Special Needs (Ang Mo Kio Primary School)
The Social Factor served as consultants for the setting up of a Sensory Room for Ang Mo Kio Primary School. A workshop was also conducted for 100 teachers with the following objectives:
- To help participants have a better understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the etiology of the disorder;
- To present an overview of special needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); and
- To learn about various classroom strategies that can be used to help students with SPD, ASD and ADHD.

2017
1) Workshop for School Key Personnel on How to Implement a Peer Support Programme in Schools – W6 School Cluster
The Social Factor conducted a workshop for Key Personnel of the W6 Cluster of Schools.
The workshop had the following objectives:
- For Key Personnel to know the value of Peer Support in the school context
- To set up a peer support programme in a systematic way with systems and processes to run and sustain it
- To know how to identify and train students to be peer support leaders
- To know the type of skills and knowledge needed to be imparted to peer support leaders to be equipped for their roles; and
- To know how to equip peer support leaders with basic knowledge of students with special needs and students who are at risk.
2) Health Promotion Board – “Colours of the Mind” – An Interactive Mental Wellness Workshop for Parents (2017-2018)
This is the third year that The Social Factor will be conducting this programme for the parents of children aged 3 to 6.
The programme has the following objectives:
- To equip parents with the knowledge and skills on building the mental wellbeing domains – Positive Functioning, Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence that would improve their children’s outcomes in life;
- To equip parents with knowledge and skills to better communicate with their children; and
- To empower parents to take control and ownership of their personal wellbeing.
120 sessions will be conducted over the course of two years.
3) Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Peer Support Training for Lecturers & Students
The Social Factor is conducting two runs of the Peer Support Programme for Peer Support Mentors and Student Peer Supporters. The 2-day student programme has the following objectives:
- To help students gain a better understanding of themselves and how their life experiences have affected the person whom they are.
- To understand the importance of empathy.
- To learn active listening and effective friendship skills in order to be a better help to their friends.
- To learn about common youth issues and signs of distress, and how to recognise when a friend needs help.
- To learn about the various support strategies & resources and how to help a friend in need.
As for the 2-day lecturer programme, it has the following objectives:
- To understand the basis for Student Peer Supporter selection & how to mentor SPS.
- To establish the roles & attributes of Teacher Mentors & SPS.
- To craft a model for the selection and training of SPS.
- To understand how to implement a Peer Support Programme.
- To craft a concrete implementation plan following the training sessions.
4) Dover Court International School – Understanding Sensory Processing Disorder
The Social Factor conducted a two-session workshop for educators and therapists to gain a better understanding of how to help students with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) in the classroom. Through the session, participants gained insights into the ethology of SPD (formerly called Sensory Integration Dysfunction), and learnt about various classroom strategies that can be used to help students with SPD.
